SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL

MINUTES

School members:  Rita Bouillon, Nancy McDougal

Parent members:  Eva Chance, Jeff Oakes

  1. Introductions
  2. Review minutes from last meeting
  3. COVID at South Valley School – feeling very lucky. Only 1 student has had COVID and that was before school began.  Some staff have been on quarantine, some students have been on quarantine due to family exposures, still only one class has been on quarantine and this was due to a staff testing positive for COVID. Only 2 additional staff have been positive for COVID.  This past week our head secretary and cafeteria staff are out on quarantine.  We appreciate everyone being diligent about reaching out to myself and our school nurse whenever they have symptoms, a possible exposure or a known exposure.
  4. Community Activities Update – added jobs and UTA back in, then discontinued jobs after governor’s State of Emergency. Still allowing teams to make individual decisions about CBT.  One class that has been going on UTA for training has commented that there are  no other passengers and it is a perfect time for training.  They aren’t getting off the train, but they are going to destinations the students have chosen and mapped out.
  5. Technology Update – only special school with 1:1 devices, able to immediately check chrome books out to any student moving to online. Have a need for a new computer lab  - old Mac desktops that can no longer be updated.  Faculty will discuss Mac vs. PC vs. Chrome and the number of computers we will need.
  6. Land Trust – Previous plan: UTA and gym passes.  We found out that we don’t need to  purchase UTA passes.  We can use the training passes for all staff and students!  This will save us thousands of dollars each year.  We haven’t used any gym passes this year and have more than enough to get us through next year.  Upcoming plan:  computer lab, curriculum, community-based activities.
  7. Incident Command – Severe Behavior in the Community, Lost Student, Reunification Plan, Response to Suicidal Thoughts,
  8. SVS Mission, Vision and Beliefs – review and consider if we are still meeting these statements
